Why Sliding Doors are Perfect for Your Home

Sliding doors are another popular choice among Perth homeowners. At Fremantle Door & Window Company, they are among the most popular doors we provide. However, they aren’t for everyone. We have decided to give you some helpful facts to help you determine if sliding doors are the right choice for your home.

Advantages of Sliding Doors

Sliding Doors are Perfect for Your Home

The number one advantage of sliding doors is that they give the widest, most unobstructed view. Regular ones are made of two large panels that are each half as wide as the doorway. To open a sliding door, you slide the movable panel alongside the stationary panel on a parallel track. If you have a pocket sliding door, which slides into the wall, the entire door disappears when you open it.

Consequently, the pocket sliding door provides the best use of the doorway, opening 100%, while a regular sliding door opens 50% of the width of the doorway. Our custom built sliding doors are made of solid, exterior grade timber frames and custom-made, weatherproof glass.

Sliding doors are the most versatile of all doors because you can open them all the way, just a crack or anywhere in between. Because they are so wide, they let in a lot of sunlight, making your home look larger and more cheerful. This makes them a natural for access to and from a back porch, patio, deck or alfresco living area.

Sliding doors are very secure. Because both timber and our weatherproof glass are natural insulators, our doors can help you save money on heating and cooling. Their potential for width also increases ventilation.

Disadvantages of Sliding Doors

If you don’t have room in your wall to make a pocket sliding door, you can only use half of your doorway as an exit and entry point. That is really the only disadvantage we know of.

Call Fremantle Door & Window for a free consult. You can talk to the builder who will be making your door and come to a decision together about which is the best option for you. Call us today: .
