Sliding patio doors have proven to be quite popular in Perth, due to many benefits such as efficient use of space, panoramic views and an aesthetic that modernises and beautifies homes, especially on a sunny day. But there is one price you have to pay for that great view: you have to keep the glass part of the door clean.
Steps to Follow
Here is a method, from start to finish, to keep your view clean and pristine.
Soak the window first with a solution of soap and water. Soap is a surfactant. In plain English, that means it lowers the surface tension between the dirt and the window. It will loosen all dirt and debris, like soaking dishes before washing.
Next, you want to apply a mild, non-abrasive window cleaning solution with a non-abrasive cloth, such as a chamois. You want everything that touches the glass to be non-abrasive, from soaking through cleaning through wiping.
Next, you will remove the cleaning solution with another non-abrasive tool, a squeegee. Do not let the metal surface, especially the screws that hold the blades in, touch the glass at any time.
Finally, make sure to dry all parts of the window that have become wet during the cleaning process. This includes, frames, gaskets and seals. Any of these, especially a timber finish, can degrade if they aren’t immediately dried off.
If you have a coated glass, do not use a razor blade on “trouble spots.” It will compromise the coating. If you have non-coated glass, it is OK to use a razor blade, but in small areas only. Make sure that you only move the blade in one direction. Moving it back and forth can mar the glass surface and trap some of the debris in the minute cracks you just created.
